rotten tomatoes searches d'internet for as many websites as possible that contain reviews of particular films. (games are also reviewed) Each review is either "fresh" or "rotten".
The website keeps track of all of the reviews counted and the percentage of positive reviews is tabulated. If the positive reviews make up 60% or more, the film is considered "fresh" and if the positive reviews are less than 60%, then the film is considered "rotten." I find it quiet accurate. Basically rather than relying on the opinion of 1 reviewer it gathers all reviews into one place.
